Our Medical Team Kentucky
Clint P. Hill, M.D.
Clint Hill, MD is an orthopaedic spine surgeon whose training and experience include the latest techniques in cervical, thoracic and lumbar procedures. He is trained and certified in use of both of the FDA approved cervical artificial disc replacements, has performed thousands of minimally invasive spinal procedures as well as the standard surgeries for treating virtually all spinal pathology. Dr. Hill’s primary surgical interests lie in treating degenerative neck and back problems with the least amount of surgical trauma possible. Through the use of minimally invasive, muscle sparing microscopic techniques, Dr. Hill is able to perform many procedures that required a lengthy hospital stay in the past but now as outpatient or with just a one night observation stay.
Dr. Hill is a native of East Tennessee, growing up in the Gatlinburg area and is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. After completing his undergraduate work at UT, he attended East Tennessee State University for medical school. From there Dr. Hill completed a five year orthopaedic surgery residency in Jackson, Mississippi at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Hill completed a long term fellowship in spinal surgery under the direction of Dr. Robert McGuire, M.D. Dr. Hill then moved to the Johnson City, TN area for two years where he practiced and treated a wide variety of spinal problems and traumatic injuries. Dr. Hill and his family relocated to Paducah to help establish The Orthopaedic Institute of Western Kentucky.
During Dr. Hill’s residency and Fellowship, he was involved in various research projects that included an investigation looking at the different effects of dynamic vs. static plating in the anterior cervical spine. Also, Dr. Hill has done research on the use of alternative bone void fillers to be used with the kyphoplasty procedure. In addition to this Dr. Hill is actively involved in product development with two separate spine manufacturing companies, primarily working on the design of new and more efficacious spinal implants. Dr. Hill is always exploring non-surgical options to manage your spine problem before he recommends surgical intervention. Like all spine surgeons, Dr. Hill’s most successful treatments involve those associated with arm or leg pain that comes from nerve compression in the spine, whether it be from disk degeneration, bone spur formation, disk herniation or other compressive pathology within the spinal canal.
During Dr. Hill’s time in college and medical school, he served nine years in the Army National Guard and prior to attending undergraduate, Dr. Hill spent about four years working on NASCAR, Winston Cup teams as a pit crew member and cylinder head specialist. Just after completion of his Bachelor’s degree, Dr. Hill married his wife Kathy and through the years that have followed, the two have had five children (four boys and one girl.) Dr. Hill spends his time away from work with his children, hunting, fishing and flying airplanes.
Dr. Hill is a member of NASS, AO North America, AO Spine, and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is an active Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. Hill is a member of The Society of Lateral Access Surgery (SOLAS®) and certified in The Better Way Back™ program and XLIF® Surgical Procedure.
