Our Medical Team Illinois
Treg D. Brown, M.D.
A proud southern Illinois native, Dr. Brown grew up in Anna, Illinois and graduated from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. After receiving an undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University he traveled to Tulane University for medical school and subsequent specialty training in orthopedic surgery. He received additional sports medicine training at the Hughston Sports Medicine Hospital and Clinic in Columbus, Georgia. Upon the completion of his residency, Dr. Brown obtained fellowships in both sports medicine and shoulder/elbow reconstruction at Harvard University/Boston Children's Hospital and Columbia University, respectively.
During his time as a fellow and later as a Tulane Sports Medicine Faculty member he was the head team physician for Loyola University Athletics (New Orleans), and Zephyrs baseball (Houston Astro’s AAA affiliate). He also served as the assistant team physician for Tulane University Athletics. He provided sports medicine coverage for a wide variety of athletes and sporting events including; the Boston Marathon, Boston Ballet, New York Yankees, the College Baseball World Series, and several WWE “Smackdown” events and Nokia Sugar Bowls.
More recently, Dr. Brown has continued to be a frequent presenter at orthopaedic conferences around the country. He is involved in biomedical development as Chief Medical Officer of Eleven Blade Solutions and has designed a tissue repair system to facilitate the repair of labrum and rotator cuff tears. He is a team physician for the Southern Illinois University Athletic Program and head team physician for Rend Lake College. Dr. Brown is also an Adjunct Clinical Professor at SIU Carbondale.
Dr. Brown is board certified in orthopedic surgery and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. In addition, he has retained his affiliation with Tulane University as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedics and has authored numerous book chapters and articles published in peer-reviewed journals. He is also a reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. His clinical interests include the treatment of both sports-related injuries and the more routine musculoskeletal conditions that inevitably affect most of us at some point in our lives.
Proper care will allow the majority of patients to return to their normal activities following a regimen of simple conservative measures. However, when surgery is deemed necessary, Dr. Brown is able to address most conditions using arthroscopic techniques in an outpatient setting, allowing patients to return home the same day. He has also received special training in the technique of cartilage transplantation procedures for the knee and performs a variety of procedures for the shoulder ranging from routine arthroscopy to complex joint replacement.
After nearly eleven years of post-graduate training, six years in academic medicine, and a desire to raise his children in southern Illinois, Dr. Brown is excited to be a member of the excellent health care team at the Orthopaedic Institute of Southern Illinois. As he states, “Our group of Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic specialists allow people of this region to receive state-of-the-art care without ever leaving 'home.’”
