OISI Staff Spotlight- Brittny LossThursday, November 5th, 2020, 5:33 pm
This week’s OISI Staff Spotlight features Brittny Loss, Financial Counselor at OISI.
How long have you been with OISI and what do you do here/ title?
I have been with OISI for almost 5 years and have worked in medical records and registration before my current title as Financial Counselor. As a financial counselor, we are responsible for taking care of patient questions or concerns when it comes to their billing/insurance whether that be by phone or in our office.
I also work up patient estimates when it comes to the procedures that are scheduled here at the Orthopedic Institute such as CT, MRI, injections, and surgeries.
Favorite part of your job?
One of the things that I have learned since I have been in this department is “patience.” I like to listen to the concerns and try to help fix the issue. We all know what it is like to receive a bill and often get upset when it either does not look right or if the balance is too large for our liking. So, I try and make the patient understand their benefits and create a comfortable payment arrangement which often helps.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
My faith gets me out of bed in the mornings. Everyone needs to have that moment to themselves to get mentally prepared for the day. My Heavenly father gives me the comfort in knowing that JOY does come in the morning.
Anyone else have those routines that just HAS to be done each morning? Mine would be making my bed. Every morning it has to be done. My parents once told me when I was younger that however your bed looks is how your day will end up. So, it has stuck with me.
There is also a quote that my boyfriend Daniel and I like to say together first thing in the morning to get our day started… “Today is a Good Day!” I believe that if you claim your day before it starts it will set the tone of your day regardless of what may happen along the way. Keeping a positive light because life is way too short to keep holding on to the things that are beyond our control.
People would be surprised if they knew what about you?
A great way to keep a positive light around you is by feeding your soul with good things that you enjoy doing. I never thought that I had an ounce of craftiness in me, but I know the style of look in crafts that I am drawn to, so my boyfriend challenged and encouraged me and I simply ran with it and opened up a side business. I create Farmhouse/Rustic/Shabby Chic crafts that I love and would purchase myself.
You can find my products HERE on Facebook under “Studio B.”
Favorite thing to do in Southern IL?
Another thing that I enjoy are my SUNDAYS. Did you know that Southern Illinois is such a beautiful location, especially during the fall season? I like to explore the local attractions in this region… some of my favorite places are Cedar Lake trails, Giant City state park, Garden of the Gods, Inspiration point trail, and Rendleman Orchards. Get out there and explore God’s creation!! It is a beautiful place.
“Stay Positive, Share Good Things, and Sprinkle Love Everywhere You Go!”
At the beginning of the year I had just gone through an elbow surgery and who would have thought that we would encounter such a pandemic across the world that made everyone’s life be at a standstill. All I knew was that I wanted to make a change in my health- you know one of those “New Year’s resolutions.” I had no goal weight set aside, I just knew that I wanted to feel better! Now, here we are with less than two months left this year, and I have dropped more than 60 lbs. since the beginning of the year!
Do I feel better? ABSOLUTELY! I chose to not allow the negativity of the world take over my mental and physical health, even though this year has brought us all by surprise. I am very thankful to have an awesome work family to go through this with. We make an awesome team! If I can encourage you with anything. Stay Positive- Share Good Things- Sprinkle Love ever where you go- you never know what someone else is going through!
