After being chosen Alabama’s high school scholar-athlete of the year, Dr. Spencer Romine graduated cum laude from Duke University in 2000, where he was the starting quarterback for the Blue Devils for four years.  He sustained multiple injuries while in college, having 7 orthopaedic surgeries himself.   After coaching collegiate football for a year, he attended The University of Alabama School of Medicine to earn his medical degree, graduating magna cum laude (top 3% of his class).  After five years of orthopaedic residency at the University of Kentucky, he completed a Sports Medicine fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.  While in Atlanta, he was an assistant team physician for the Atlanta Falcons professional football team as well at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Dr. Romine has performed extensive research in the field of orthopaedics, specifically focusing on sports medicine topics such as ACL reconstruction and cartilage restoration procedures.  He is the author of several articles published in peer-reviewed journals.  He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and American Academy of Orthopaedics (AAOS).  He is currently board eligible in orthopaedic surgery.

Given his extensive history of treating sports injuries he is passionate to work with athletes, no matter the age of the patient or level of competition.  He is trained in total joint replacements, fracture care, as well as minimally-invasive arthroscopic surgeries of the shoulder, knee, and ankle.
